President Joe Biden will nominate Alvaro Bedoya, a Georgetown University law professor and privacy advocate, to serve on the Federal Trade Commission, according to news reports. Bedoya is the founding director of Georgetown’s Center on Privacy and Technology and previously served as chief counsel on the Senate Judiciary privacy subcommittee, then chaired by former Democratic Sen. Al Franken of Minnesota. He is seen as an expert on privacy issues related to the technology industry. Bedoya will replace current Commissioner Rohit Chopra, whom Biden nominated to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
