ASIC streamlines new breach burden for banks – AFR

The Australian Banking Association had asked ASIC to clarify whether it had to update the regulator with a new breach report if it found further instances of the issue arising from the same root cause or breaching the same obligation.
“An approach that requires licensees to report each subsequent individual instance would only exacerbate the likely problem of a large volume of reports, making it difficult for ASIC and licensees to focus on the significant issues,” the ABA said in its submission.

$1.5 million gone as ‘investment guru’ pleads guilty to fraud

A self-proclaimed ‘investment guru’ has pleaded guilty to fraud charges in the Brisbane Supreme Court (Source: Getty/Brisbane Supreme Court)
Roger Munro, an “investment guru” has pleaded guilty to three charges of fraud and faces up to 36 years in prison for misappropriating up to $1.5 million in investor funds.
ASIC filed five fraud charges against Munro but two charges were later dropped due to witnesses being unavailable, ASIC said.
